Switch 2 breaks 26m consoles sold, as Splatoon and Fire Emblem add more million

The second quarter reports are in for Nintendo and they have sold 26.35m Switch 2 consoles so far, adding 2.97m to the total in the 3 months from July 1st to September 30th.

After missing out on being reported on last time, Star Fox has broken 1m copies, coming in at 1.17m copies sold. The new additions to the million sellers for Nintendo Switch 2 are Splatoon Raiders at 2.42m copies sold and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave at 1.34m.

As you can see below there is a large drop in sales for the first six months of this fiscal year, compared to the previous one, with Switch 2 dropping 37.4%. There was no specific call out in the reports but the price increase likely played a part. Software though went up by almost 19%, selling roughly 4m games compared to the same period last year.

Digital sales also exploded, with the numbers going up some 60% year on year. That means it boosted the overall breakdown to being 60.7% of all game sales for Nintendo is now digital.

For those who are curious, they did address the Tariff situation in the reporting, with the statement:

We recorded approximately 300 million U.S. dollars as a reduction of cost of sales in connection with refunds of IEEPA tariffs during the first quarter. The tariffs related to the refunds were primarily borne by the company rather than passed on to consumers through product prices

Obviously this did not impact anyone other than America, but it is interesting to see Nintendo claim that they took the brunt of the increase, rather than pass it on to the consumer.

Finally, Nintendo Switch was given a mention in that they are planning to make people aware of it, at 157m consoles sold, I am sure people are aware, but this was the statement.

While working to bring Nintendo Switch 2 to more consumers, we will also leverage the Nintendo Switch hardware installed base and rich software lineup to expand software sales and maintain engagement.

This is very similar to what they said last quarter, which again highlights they appear to be done with software creation. Their future games list shows nothing for Nintendo Switch.
