New Killzone Reportedly In The Works

Sony is reportedly looking at reviving their old FPS franchise helmed by Horizon developers, Guerrilla Games, Killzone. What was once thought of as a “Halo killer” or rather Sony’s answer to Halo, hasn’t seen action since 2013’s Killzone Shadow Fall, which faced some mixed reviews, but multiplayer servers lasted quite a while.

According to MP1st, a third-party studio is working alongside the original developers to do some sort of remake or remaster, it’s not clear which, though it’s more likely a visual upgrade for the original Killzone. This is apparently Guerrilla’s next focus after Horizon Hunters Gathering, but as you may know, development has rebooted due to negative feedback, so the team is focused on fixing that before moving onto a new project.

It’s also mentioned who is likely the external developer, that being People Can Fly, which is right off the heels of Gears of War: E-Day and is currently developing Project Delta, a PlayStation-backed project that is presumed to be Killzone here since Delta is part of an existing PlayStation IP.

Now, I will stress, the report notes that this is still in the early phases, so while this is planned to be their next focus, that might change over time or perhaps it could even fall out of favor internally. Meanwhile, Horizon 3 is likely to be the next focus after this Killzone project. This is the same studio that has, for years, stressed how they are done with Killzone and the same studio that shuttered Killzone.com.

Unfortunately, the way I view this is whatever Guerrilla’s got cooking here is likely not coming out until the PS6, though its release is still up in the air at Sony. I doubt, though, the studio will have the full game, if it’s in early development, ready to release before the January 2028 period.
