Sony Plan Return for Killzone Franchise, per New Report

A new report suggests that Sony are planning the return of their long-dormant FPS franchise, Killzone, which hasn’t seen a new release since 2013’s Killzone: Shadowfall.

Guerrilla Games are currently hard at work on the next game in their Horizon series with Horizon: Hunters Gathering, in spite of more recent reports that suggest the multiplayer-focused title is being rebooted internally, but a new report suggests they’re working with a partner on something for old school PlayStation fans.

In a new report from MP1st, the folks there have suggsted a new Killzone project is in the ‘very early stages of production’.

According to people familiar with the situation, Guerrilla Games is working with an external (read: not PlayStation first-party) studio on a Killzone remaster/remake. So far, it hasn’t been specified which game in the franchise is being updated, but common sense points to the first 2004 entry as the most sensible choice.

As the majority of Guerrilla Games are working on Hunters Gathering, the folks at MP1st have suggested just who they’re partnering with for this potential remake/remaster, saying that from what they’ve heard, Polish-based studio People Can Fly “will be in charge of this new Killzone“, surmising Sony have already signed an agreement with PCF to “co-develop a title codenamed Delta, a project set to be based on an existing PlayStation IP.“
